There is a huge one that features dare-devil rides for adults, another that specializes in kids, one that has loads of amazing markets, and a couple of others (one packed amazingly into Barfusseplatz) that are a mixture.
We went to them all on different days (they went over three weeks) and really enjoyed ourselves. Flynn had a ball because they had so many amazing kids rides at most of them. They also do wonderful foods (german sausages, candied almonds, raclette cheese melted with bread, crepes, baked goodies, quiches, and a million more things).
And they are so beautiful! There are amazingly ornate carousels, the food stands are done out like huts or old fashioned shops and the markets sell high-quality and interesting goods - not just a load of old tat.
But it's the rides that REALLY matter!
Kids' dodgems!
So, where are the toddler rides?"
Benge didn't really seem to mind that he wasn't going on any rides. He was more than happy to just race off into the crowds and have me chase him while Flynn enjoyed the racing cars.
Cheeky personified
At the main kid-centred one, they had an enclosed area (away from the full-on crowds by the markets and the rides all around it) where small kids could play on all manner of cool things. Flynn is demonstrating here the railway cars - hours of fun!
They also had a snack tent where the boys stoked their furnaces
And a perfect spot for the smallest of boys - where giant blocks and train tracks were a real winner!
Meanwhile, mum and dad took turns going into the outside fair to replenish their supplies of gluhwein (mulled wine) - which was absolutely delicious and pleasantly potent.
We went in the late afternoon to a couple of the fairs, as the lights are amazing when it gets dark (around 5pm now).
Another day and back at the kids' fair. Flynn had a million rides on this thing, where you sit on a tray and a man pushes you hard down a long ramp with rollers. The kids went down like bats out of hell - slightly alarming but they loved it!
Benjy has a go on the railway train
Flynn's a fierce knight and you won't go anywhere near his wooden sword if you know what's good for you! Behind him is a castle with stairs to different floors and the kids could really get into imaginative play there. Of course there was lots of violence, screaming and accusations of being whacked with someone's sword, but they had lots of fun as well.
We all had a ball and look forward to doing it again next year!
All done and off home on the tram.
