There were five fair-sites around the city - both inside and outside
venues and plenty of kids rides everywhere.
Flynn's favourite is the dodgems, but he likes a go on anything that's fast!
In November the Swiss celebrate a lantern/turnip festival, called Räbechilbi,
literally "turnip party." Traditionally, people carve designs into turnips, light
them up like a lantern and have a parade. Though there was once a more religious meaning behind the tradition, the turnip lanterns now represent the
warmth of home during the cold winter months.
These days, many kids use paper lanterns instead, though the turnips are still very popular. Each school or kindy will have their own parade with the lanterns they have made, and parents come to watch. Flynn's kindy marched through the streets, then congregated for a song performance, before heading back to the kindy for cake, soup and hot tea. It was a lovely experience!
