Honeymoon in Vietnam!

At the end of August we took off to Vietnam for our honeymoon week away!

We stayed in Hoi An, a small town on the East Coast of Vietnam. It's a beautiful, rustic town - a blend of faded-French-colonial buildings and Vietnamese culture.

We stayed six nights in Hoi An and one night in Ho Chi Minh City, on the way back. It was great!! We chose the resort because it was lauded as kid-friendly, and indeed it was.

The rooms were great and had bathrooms so big that we put Flynn's cot in there at night and so he had his own room. He's a good little sleeper too, so we made use of the babysitting service and went out for dinner several nights.

The view from our room

We didn't take as many photos as we'd have liked to because our camera battery is on the blink and lost it's charge. Blake did take some with his Blackberry which I will publish on the next blog since I am having trouble adding them to this one.

The kids' pool

Flynn rides his first elephant

The big pool
(They throw in huge blocks of ice to try to cool it down!)

The kids' Club - where Flynn spent many a happy hour
(unfortunately insisting that we stay too)

The cars are always his favourite

Going from pool to lobby

Flynn refuses to walk up the stairs (even in shoes) as the tiles get super hot!

Free at last, we escape to town at night

The resort was a 5km drive to Hoi An town. Here we take the shuttle
and capture some of the scenery

Hoi An has a river running through it, upon which there were many
fishing boats, barge-type boats and water taxis - we took a boat trip back to
our hotel which was a bit of fun for Flynn

A big thank you to all of those who contributed to our honeymoon fund!! We had a fantastic time and will savour the memories for years! Thank you!

Vietnam Part Two

These are the Blackberry shots:

Mmmm lunchtime, Flynn's favourite.
However he was NOT impressed with his healthy lunch - when dad had a burger and fries!

We head into Hoi An for dinner and drinks, sans toddler - YAY!

We visited the war museum in Hoi Chi Minh - pretty horrible stuff but
we felt we should know more about what went on.
Flynn liked the planes - a lot

The weather was fantastic (but SO hot) the whole time we were there, until the last day when there was a little rain. Here we are at the airport, waiting to go home. Flynn was pretty happy spotting buses, trucks and planes.

August

We've a bit of catching up to do! To start, here are a few random shots from August.

Here we are on a walk from Mt Faber to Hort Park - a beautiful route that takes a long walk through the forest on a boardwalk, high above the ground. Reminds me a bit of NZ, except it's stinking hot.

Blake cracks a blinder of a joke

Flynn has a new potty to introduce him to the idea that this is the place where he will be doing poos and wees. He loves it and enjoys spending hours pushing it around, climbing on it and agreeing with me that it's where poos and wees go - though so far prefering NOT to sully his new play-thing with such unmentionables.

Dave and Bev, Blake's uncle and aunt, came to visit us whilst on a cruise that visited Singapore. They had already spent some time checking out the local sights and so spent a weekend with us, mostly chilling out and checking out the area nearby. We really enjoyed spending time with them and are hoping they'll visit again on their next cruise!

I took Flynn to some children's theatre the other day - I had some slight concerns that he might go berserk and destroy the set and/or disrupt the play, but he was entranced. It was designed for the under 4's so was very easy to to follow and they LOVED it. Flynn did have to be directed off the set a couple of times, but a sly biscuit (no food allowed) kept his wanderlust at bay.

Flynn admires the stage

Flynn's been going through some picky phases in his eating. At one point he decided that he didn't want to eat any form of protein. Fortunately that was short lived.
Now there are many meals which he will not eat with a spoon. Beans is one (he insists on eating each bean individually, with his fingers), and pasta is another - he must also eat each piece individually with his fingers, after removing any excess sauce.

A look of satisfaction crosses his face as he admires his handiwork - he has managed to avoid any unnecessary sauce, while eating every last piece of his favourite seashell pasta.
