June was a very cool and rainy month - really it felt like summer wasn't going to arrive. But then July arrived with searing 35 degree plus heat and drought weather - we didn't know what had hit us. August has been much more reasonable with lovely sunny days and nice warm temperatures, sometimes getting up into early 30's.
We've been spending lots of time outside in parks and pools, and visiting nearby towns in Switzerland, Germany and France.
In a nearby farming town called Gempen, there is a small race track with two race cars, right in the middle of orchards and farmland! - the kids love it
Benjy takes a driving lesson
This is Liestal, a town about 20 mins drive from us. It's a beautiful place with lots of restaurants and cafes.
Ahhh, beer time
We visited a park in Basel called Kannefeld park where we had a nice time with Benjy while Flynn attended a birthday party.
Benjy quickly befriended the local ladies
Made himself a nice castle
When it was time to go to a café Benjy threw an almighty tantrum, which he never recovered from, and that was the end of that outing
An afternoon in the forest with friend, Jonah
Time for ice-cream! Happy boys!
We're often in the hills behind our place
Sometimes Blake makes damper and they all cook it on a stick over an open fire. There are dozens of fire sites all through the forest and no fire bans.
The boys wait patiently for the fire to be ready
Yay, nearly ready!
On one of the hottest days, the boys did what the local kids do and took at dip in one of the plentiful local water fountains
A little calm play from Benjy
The face of trouble
"Come closer Benjy, I promise I won't get you"
Our veggie garden is flourishing now, with giant zucchinis, tomatoes, peppers and pumpkins.
