Eating in Singapore

We spend a lot of time eating out here - local food courts are cheap, plentiful, and serve a variety of mostly good dishes - albeit a little oily. The main themes are Chinese food (the real stuff, not your sweet and sour pork, mind), Indonesian/Malaysian and Indian. If you don't like rice or noodles you're in trouble.

It saves us a lot of time and effort on cooking, for little more than what it would cost to make it yourself (ie a typical meal would cost from NZ$3 - $5).

Eating out at western-style cafes and restaurants is not such a bargain however. You can expect to pay as much or more as in New Zealand for the same type of stuff. We go out for brunch most weekends and generally hit the western cafes where we meet friends.
