Flynn had three halloween parties to attend and went as a ghoul (wearing a long black robe and the scary-looking axe-thing he's holding) - but here he's modelling my witch's hat and doing his best scary screech (which he's been practising for the past 4 years, so it's quite impressive).
Benjy went as himself, given that he has a hard enough time accepting normal clothes, let alone a costume. He did, however, allow the witch hat to remain on his head for a second...
Literally, just a second
A sweet smile from our little ghoul!
Benjy's wondering where his carriage went
I got roped into dressing up since they needed a witch for a game - and it gave me the opporunity to swipe at small children with a broom
I was more excited about our local farm having a pumpkin festival (it's quiet around here). But actually is was really fun! They had horse and cart rides, free pumpkin soup (tasty), free apple juice tasting (about 10 varieties, all good), lots of great food stalls (crepes, melted cheese-on-toast-thingys, hotdogs (real sausages), roasted pumpkin and pumpkin bread and cake!
Here we are checking out the set-up the week before the festival
On the actual day there was a big crowd despite it being a really cold day. Flynn loved it the horse and cart rides, the food (of course) and the barn full of straw and bales for the kids to jump and dive off. They also had a 'guess the weight of the pumpkin' competition. We had a very nice little rustic time there!
The weather has been a lot cooler over the past few weeks, though it keeps swinging between cold (3 degrees) and a lot warmer (15 degrees-ish). We are still having some days where we're outside playing without jackets on. The summer has been amazing and it's been uncharacteristically warm through autumn.
Our central heating's on all the time now though 'cause the nights and mornings are pretty cold, even if the day does warm up later. We have a boiler room in our basement that contains an oil burner with 4000 litres of oil in it!!! A truck comes once a year to fill it up. I'll take some photos of our basement level rooms as it's very interesting down there (well, somewhat interesting).
I am really enjoying the cooler weather, it's been great wrapping up in warm clothes, but the downside is the days are now much shorter (getting dark around 5.30pm) and it's a bit cold to take the kids on our usual evening walks - Through summer most evenings we went for a walk after dinner and bath, with the kids in the chariot, up into the hills and forest. We all love it but when you're not walking it feels pretty cold in the woods (and it's dark)!
