In retrospect Flynn's watering of the newly-sown garden with a bucket (he insisted) was probably responsible for swishing away our delicate seed-laden topsoil. Nevertheless, many weeks later we accidentally spotted this one lonesome lettuce - the sole survivor of our aggressive gardening.
But wait, there's more...
Blake put some compost onto our veggie strip (since the composter was getting pretty full) and to our delight this resulted in a load of tomato plants growing themselves! My neighbour, Ernhart, tells me these will all die unfortunately (he has a large and bountiful veggie garden and knows about such things). But still, nice to see some veggies plants in our previously barren veggie garden. I have put one of the tomato plants in a pot inside in the hopes that the radiator heat will trick it into thinking it's summer.
The root of our gardening woes
Just behind the veggie garden and over the back fence is a kindergarten. Hopefully flynn will be going here in a year or so. Kindergarten here starts at age five. School starts at seven! Whose idea was that!
