Lake Como

We had a five-day holiday at Lake Como in Italy in May. It was an extended long weekend so the three-hour drive was worth the whining/screaming/moaning from the backseats.

It was interesting trip too - given that we started out in mild, cloudy weather, then entered a long tunnel and came out in full-on snow!

 

Then entered another tunnel and came out in bright sun!

Como is a beautiful city - all cobbled streets, beautiful monuments, churches and piazzas, rustic italian flavour to every building and house. Blake was in seventh heaven as he loves Italian food and the kids were happy to able to eat spaghetti bolognaise every night!

We stayed in a little apartment a few minutes walk from the centre of town and spent most of our time walking around and eating.

But quickly gets camera-weary and refuses further paparazzi intrusion

Benjy turned two while we were there, but we decided to celebrate his birthday back in Basel so we could have a party for him. Nevertheless he had a great day consisting of;

A trip up in the furnicular (cable car) to the top of a very high hill

 

Where we enjoyed beer and chips (then the boys got a bit rowdy).

 

And we ended the day in an Italian restaurant. What more could a two-year-old ask for?

The next day we took a boat trip on the lake and headed to a beautiful park-like area where there was a restaurant and outdoor bar overlooking the water.

Benjy was irresistably drawn to the white couches and began begging for blackcurrent juice

Blake was irresistably drawn to the bar and began begging for a beer and Flynn was irresistably drawn to the chippy basket and (after cleaning it out in record time) began begging for more.

It was quite hot that day so a few beers and chips were required, and quite soon we were all pleased to find ourselves playing hide and seek behind the manicured shrubs.

A very enjoyable trip and we would definitely go there again.
